After visiting Croston on New Year’s Day and witnessing first-hand the devastation caused by the flooding to people’s homes and the disruption to their families it became a personal priority of mine to ensure everything possible was being done to prevent it from happening again.

With hundreds of South Ribble residents employed at BAE Systems in Samlesbury and Warton, where the world-class Typhoon fighter jet is assembled, it’s fantastic to see a major step forward in the aircraft’s export to Türkiye.

Having driven that route regularly myself, and having heard countless concerns during my time as Leader of the Council, I understand just how frustrating the congestion can be. What’s more, as someone who now commutes by train more often, I’ve seen first-hand the delays hardworking people face just trying to get to and from work. So, improvements on the West Coast Main Line (North) are also very welcome.

Every single day, around 3,000 crimes related to Violence Against Women and Girls are recorded across the UK. It’s a shocking statistic and one we must not accept as normal. To tackle this issue head-on, the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner has launched a county-wide survey to hear directly from women and girls about their experiences, concerns, and ideas for change.

Last year, I stood up in Parliament and spoke about the scourge of knife crime blighting communities up and down the country — not least here in South Ribble. That’s why I’m pleased to see tougher action on knife crime set out in the new Crime and Policing Bill, which is currently at Report Stage in Parliament.

As a man, I can only try to comprehend the circumstances that might lead a woman to feel so desperate that she believes she has no other option but to end her pregnancy. I can only imagine that anyone who reaches that point must feel utterly without choices, or be extremely vulnerable.

4,170 children across South Ribble will qualify for free school meals. It goes without saying that nutritious food is essential for every child’s development. It boosts concentration, energy levels, mood, and overall physical and mental health, all of which are key to helping children thrive in the classroom and beyond.

I have listened carefully to the concerns raised by the Ulnes Walton Action Group (UWAG) throughout the planning process. Many of the issues they highlighted were significant and deserved serious consideration, which is why I am disappointed that their Judicial Review appeal was unsuccessful.

Today, I visited St Catherine's Hospice, Lancashire to meet with Chief Executive, Lynn Kelly and discuss the impact of funding disparities on the vital care they provide. Hospices should not have to rely overwhelmingly on public generosity. Donations should supplement funding, not be the backbone of it.

It was a real privilege to attend and take part in the Academy at Worden’s annual Presentation Evening, an event that showcases the talent, dedication, and spirit of the school community.

Jubilee Gardens is a much-needed, state-of-the-art extra care facility that will provide high-quality housing for local residents. By introducing this extra care provision, it will help people maintain their independence while also ensuring they have access to the vital support they need.

While we rightly commemorate the lives lost and the families torn apart during the Second World War, we must also recognise that conflict continues to scar communities across the globe.

I had the absolute pleasure of being a guest judge at Trinity's Got Talent. It was truly a privilege to be invited to the talent show. Judging was extremely difficult because every young person deserved an award for their hard work and dedication.
