Dementia Hub

I think most of us know someone whose life has been touched by dementia, and with an ageing population, help, advice and support services are only becoming more important.
That’s why it was so lovely to meet so many of the people supporting those living with dementia in South Ribble when I visited the Dementia Information Hub in Leyland.
Every month, the Hub brings together brilliant volunteers and organisations offering support and advice to people living with dementia, their families and carers.
It was particularly moving to speak to John, whose wife lived with dementia and sadly passed away recently. Drawing on his own experience, John spoke passionately about the importance of person-centred care and ensuring that, as we look at the future of adult social care, the individual and their needs remain at the heart of it.
The Hub brings different organisations and service providers together under one roof, including Dementia UK, Age Concern, Regenerate and the Royal British Legion, giving people somewhere to turn for advice, information and support, as well as the chance to meet others who understand what they’re going through.
There’s important work happening nationally too, with the Government investing millions in dementia research, improving diagnosis and developing more joined-up care so people can get the right support when they need it.
A huge thank you to everyone at Dementia Community Connections for the warm welcome and, more importantly, for everything you do for vulnerable people across South Ribble.
You can find out more about the group and how to access their services on their Facebook page: South Ribble Dementia Community Connection - SRDCC.
