While I am naturally saddened by his decision to step down, I recognise that politics is always moving and changing, and there comes a point when a fresh start can be in the best interests of the party, the government and the country.

I welcome the Government’s continued action to close asylum hotels. The Government’s closure of 11 asylum hotels is a clear sign that the Government is serious about its commitment to end the use of hotels for asylum accommodation by the end of this Parliament.

These are men and women who run towards danger when the rest of us are told to stay away- putting themselves in harm’s way, often without knowing what they are about to face.

People across South Ribble have been in touch with me over the past few days regarding the situation in Iran and the wider Middle East. I know that people are worried, especially those with family or friends in the region.

The decision by Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust to pause new referrals and halt progress on existing waiting lists for autism (ASD) and ADHD assessments for children and young people is deeply concerning to me. I share this concern with other Lancashire-based MPs, so I have joined them in writing to the Trust to raise our concerns.
