Having driven that route regularly myself, and having heard countless concerns during my time as Leader of the Council, I understand just how frustrating the congestion can be. What’s more, as someone who now commutes by train more often, I’ve seen first-hand the delays hardworking people face just trying to get to and from work. So, improvements on the West Coast Main Line (North) are also very welcome.

Every single day, around 3,000 crimes related to Violence Against Women and Girls are recorded across the UK. It’s a shocking statistic and one we must not accept as normal. To tackle this issue head-on, the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner has launched a county-wide survey to hear directly from women and girls about their experiences, concerns, and ideas for change.

Last year, I stood up in Parliament and spoke about the scourge of knife crime blighting communities up and down the country — not least here in South Ribble. That’s why I’m pleased to see tougher action on knife crime set out in the new Crime and Policing Bill, which is currently at Report Stage in Parliament.

I have listened carefully to the concerns raised by the Ulnes Walton Action Group (UWAG) throughout the planning process. Many of the issues they highlighted were significant and deserved serious consideration, which is why I am disappointed that their Judicial Review appeal was unsuccessful.

Today, I visited St Catherine's Hospice, Lancashire to meet with Chief Executive, Lynn Kelly and discuss the impact of funding disparities on the vital care they provide. Hospices should not have to rely overwhelmingly on public generosity. Donations should supplement funding, not be the backbone of it.
