Today, I visited St Catherine's Hospice, Lancashire to meet with Chief Executive, Lynn Kelly and discuss the impact of funding disparities on the vital care they provide. Hospices should not have to rely overwhelmingly on public generosity. Donations should supplement funding, not be the backbone of it.
That’s why last week, during Prime Minister’s Questions, I asked the Prime Minister about the postcode lottery that means some hospices receive free medication while others do not. For me, it's just about fairness. I believe that medication should be free for all hospices, ensuring vulnerable patients get the care they deserve at the end of their lives.
I will be contacting the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting to make a case for a fairer system.
I also spoke with ITV about this issue. I'll share the interview once it airs.
