Ministers have announced a £300 million investment in our Further Education sector. This substantial funding is part of the government's ongoing commitment to improving educational facilities and ensuring that students across the country have access to high-quality learning environments.
I am thrilled to announce that Runshaw College Sixth Form Centre is set to receive a £1,733,469 capital grant to enhance and maintain their college estate for both staff and students. This grant will be used to upgrade facilities, improve infrastructure, and ensure that the college continues to provide an excellent educational experience.
Government's Investment in Further Education
The £300 million investment in Further Education is aimed at addressing the urgent need for repairs and improvements in college buildings across England. This funding, announced by the Chancellor in the Autumn Budget, is part of the government's Plan for Change, which seeks to break down barriers to opportunity and support the next generation of skilled workers.
The funding will be distributed to further education colleges, sixth-form colleges, and other post-16 providers, allowing them to decide how best to use the money to improve their estates. This approach recognises that local providers are best placed to determine their own priorities and address the specific needs of their communities.
Runshaw College Sixth Form Centre
Runshaw College, located in Leyland, has a long-standing reputation for excellence in education. Established in 1974, the college has grown to become one of the leading further education institutions in the region2. The £1,733,469 capital grant will enable Runshaw College to undertake essential maintenance and upgrades, ensuring that the facilities remain fit for purpose and continue to support high-quality teaching and learning.
The grant can be used to refurbish classrooms, upgrade technology, and improve energy efficiency, contributing to a more sustainable and modern learning environment3. These improvements will benefit both staff and students, enhancing the overall educational experience and helping to attract and retain learners.
