Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Centurion Village development in Leyland to see the progress of this energy-efficient and sustainable community. It was an insightful visit, where I had the opportunity to learn more about the construction progress and plans for the next phase of this now well-established development.
During the tour, I was shown around the properties under construction, the show homes, and the onsite amenities by Rhys Nicholson, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, and Gavin Powell, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes North West. Their commitment to delivering high-quality homes was evident throughout.
In light of Labour's pledge to get Britain building again and the government’s commitment to constructing 1.5 million new homes, it was fascinating to see the work being done at Centurion Village. Housebuilders like Barratt and David Wilson Homes play a crucial role in addressing the urgent need for housing across the country, helping to replenish our depleted housing stock and ensuring that people have places to live.
I was particularly encouraged to see that a third of the homes in this development are allocated as affordable housing. Affordable housing is an essential part of the housing mix, making it easier for young people to get on the property ladder and enabling families to live close to their support networks.
Sustainability is also a key focus of this development. I was impressed by the inclusion of a wildflower meadow, a biodiversity area, and the planting of 250 trees, which not only enhance the environment but also foster a sense of community and well-being. The installation of bird boxes and bat boxes across the site further demonstrates the housebuilders’ commitment to giving nature a home.
Centurion Village, with its 932 homes, has been a sought-after location for house hunters since its launch in late 2021. It is encouraging to see such thoughtful and sustainable developments taking shape in Leyland, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact this community will have on our area.
Thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for the warm welcome and for showcasing the impressive work being done at Centurion Village. Together, we are building a brighter future for South Ribble.
