I had the pleasure of exploring Edge Hill University, and I must say, it was an eye-opening experience. Despite passing by the campus many times, I had never realised just how expansive it is or the incredible range of facilities it offers. It was a privilege to receive a guided tour from both staff and students, who showcased the university’s impressive resources.
One of the standout moments was visiting their state-of-the-art medical simulation department. This remarkable facility is instrumental in training doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals. I was particularly impressed by their fully automated and digitised pathology facility, which provides students with a comprehensive learning environment for medicine and anatomy all in one place.
I also had the opportunity to engage with some aspiring young politicians during a lively Q&A session. Their enthusiasm and challenging questions were a testament to the bright future of political engagement among young people.
It was heartening to learn that many young adults from South Ribble attend Edge Hill University. The institution’s strong record of attracting students from areas of deprivation, coupled with its excellent pastoral department, ensures that all students receive the support they need to succeed, regardless of their background.
A big thank you to Vice Chancellor Lynda Brady and Politics Lecturer Dr Steven Daniels for taking the time to show me around. Edge Hill University is a true asset to our region, and I look forward to seeing its continued success.
