Driving through South Ribble can be a frustrating experience, with traffic frequently crawling at a snail’s pace. I’ve experienced these delays myself many times, which is why I was pleased to meet with Lilian Greenwood MP, the Minister for the Future of Roads at the Department for Transport, to discuss the urgent improvements needed for the A582.
The planned upgrades to the A582 aim to reduce congestion, improve journey times, and enhance provisions for buses, walking, and cycling. However, as I have emphasised to Lancashire County Council on numerous occasions, these improvements must be accompanied by the full dualling of the A582 from Penwortham to Lostock Hall. I made this point very clear to the Minister during our meeting.
In addition to the A582, we also discussed other strategic road improvements that could benefit South Ribble and the wider Central Lancashire area. I took the opportunity to strongly advocate for increased funding to repair the county’s roads, with a particular focus on addressing the persistent issue of potholes.
I remain committed to ensuring that South Ribble receives the necessary investment in road infrastructure to improve travel, reduce frustrations, and enhance connectivity for our residents. Together, we can ensure these essential upgrades become a reality.
