I had a brilliant time visiting Wellfield Academy this morning and meeting both students and staff.
The students were full of curiosity, asking a wide range of thoughtful and engaging questions about Parliament and current affairs. Topics included everything from the conflict in Ukraine and immigration to the challenges of inflation. I was hugely impressed by their knowledge and the variety of issues they raised, particularly about current affairs.
It was also great to hear from the Headteacher, Mr. Lewis, all about the school’s dedicated SEND provision, which ensures that all students are fully supported and included in the school community.
Wellfield Academy was recently chosen for the Government’s School Rebuilding Programme, and since then has been working on an ambitious project to transform the site. The plans will see the school almost completely rebuilt, delivering state-of-the-art, zero-carbon facilities that create a modern, sustainable learning environment for both students and staff.
It’s fantastic to see this level of investment in the future of education in our community, and I look forward to watching the new campus take shape in the years ahead.
