During my years of service in the late 1980s through to the early 2000s, I experienced firsthand the challenges of substandard military accommodation. It is disheartening to see that, two decades later, we are still grappling with this issue.
In Parliament, I sought assurance that the government is committed to addressing this long-standing concern. Al Carns MP, Minister for Veterans, provided reassurance that the new defence housing strategy, outlined in the Strategic Defence Review, aims to deliver much-needed improvements to housing for our armed forces.
While this commitment is encouraging, it is vital that we see meaningful progress and real changes that will positively impact the lives of those who serve. Our armed forces deserve nothing less than safe, secure, and high-quality accommodation, befitting their dedication and service to the nation. I will continue to monitor this issue closely and advocate for swift and effective action.
