My top ten budget take-aways

Here are ten things I'm proud of from Labour’s recent Budget:

👨‍👩‍👧 Supporting families and tackling child poverty

By lifting the two-child limit, Labour is helping around 450,000 children, making a clear moral choice that no child should be held back by their circumstances.

💷 Putting money back in people’s pockets

This Budget eases the pressure on household finances, including action that will cut average energy bills by around £150 a year, helping families feel more secure month to month.

💼 Backing working people

A strong rise in the National Living Wage to £12.71 an hour means a real pay increase for millions. If you work hard, Labour believes you should be paid properly.

🚆 Freezing key everyday costs

A freeze on rail fares and NHS prescription charges will save many commuters hundreds of pounds a year and protect access to essential healthcare.

⚖️ Fairness in the tax system

Those with the broadest shoulders are contributing a little more, helping raise over £26 billion to invest in public services and support those who need it most.

🏥 A long-term plan for public services

This is a Budget focused on stability, not short-term gimmicks, providing secure funding to rebuild the NHS and strengthen public services for the future.

Helping with energy bills and energy security

Alongside immediate bill reductions, Labour is investing in a cleaner, more secure energy system that lowers costs and protects Britain from future price shocks.

👵 Backing pensioners and people planning for retirement

The State Pension will rise by around £575 a year, protecting those who’ve worked all their lives and keeping the system fair for future generations.

🚗 Supporting motorists and rural communities

The continued 5p cut to fuel duty and new fuel price transparency measures recognise the real pressures faced by people who rely on their cars.

🌱 A responsible Budget with hope at its heart

Above all, this is a Budget built on responsibility, fairness and optimism – fixing the foundations of our economy and giving the country confidence in the future again.
